#4 ねこカフェ( cat café)は行ったことありますか?

2014.09.02

Have you ever visited a cat café? A visit to cat café is truly a Japanese experience not to be missed. With busy people in small apartments, even people that love cats in Japan may not be able to care for them in their own homes. Additionally, the healing nature an animal provides make cat cafes an excellent location whether you are stressed out or just want to brighten up your day. Lucky for us that Sendai is spoiled for choice with three cat cafes all in downtown locations. Please allow me to briefly introduce them here.

Tenshi no Koneko Neko (天使のこねこネコ)

Address: Sendai, Aoba-ku, Ichibanco, 3 chome, 6-13 Shopping Plaza Omachi Bldg 3F

Website: http://www.tenshino-konekoneko.com/

Located just off the Ichibancho shopping arcade, Tenshi no Koneko Neko is an easy escape from shopping, or a trip can be included before or after going out for a meal. With lots of natural light filtering through the windows, a large assortment of cat publications, a drink bar and even a point card system, the café tries to make it easy to enjoy your stay. There is adequate seating but the cats seem to use the front tables and chairs, while sitting in the back of the spacious café may separate you from the pretty kitties. I recommend a thirty minute option for 600-700 yen without the drink option.

Aikyatto(あいきゃっと)

Address: Sendai, Aoba-ku, Chuo 2 chome, 11-30 YS Bldg 5F

Website: http://www.ai-cat.jp/index.html

Aikyatto is a cat café a five minute walk from Hirosedori subway station exit 1. It is the most expensive of the three cat cafes at 1250 yen for an hour course, but students can receive a discount. However, there is good reason for the price because its facilities are the best of all. If you are going to your first cat café, make it this one. The wide open area full of play structures, cat toys, and carpeted floor is a paradise for our feline friends. For the human customers, there is also a lot of perks. An unlimited hot and cold drink bar is included in the price, as are snacks such as crackers. There are also board games and cat publications. With a “free time” option for 2100 yen you can spend as long as you want in the café.

Neko Colle (ねここれ)                   10490137_10204863242841252_745538629_n                                                                                    Address: Sendai, Aoba-ku, Kokubuncho, 1-6-15 Okuda Bldg. 6F

Neko Colle is Sendai’s newest cat café, opening in March 2014. It is the smallest of the cat cafés, but it also has some fun options that the others don’t. First, in the separate reception room, small cat related souvenirs are sold. Also, at the counter you can purchase cat food to give to the pretty kitties, which makes sure you get a lot of extra attention. They also offer a 15 minute mini course. Why is this an excellent idea? Well the cat cafe is just a three minute walk from the Disney Store, a popular meeting place. Is someone that you are supposed to meet running late? Well, for 400 yen you should be able to get enough cuteness to distract you until their arrival.

Japan has a long history and is full of traditions, but don’t forget that modern times are also full of a whole new kind of culture. Experience some of it at a Sendai cat café!
