#68 瑞鳳殿～杉木立の中にたたずむ伊達政宗公の霊屋

仙台城の東、直線で約1㎞のところに経ケ峯という名の丘がある。

仙台城を築いた初代仙台藩主・伊達政宗は、1636年の死の翌年、その遺言に従い経ケ峯に埋葬された。

瑞鳳殿と名づけられた豪華絢爛な霊屋(墓)は、正面が仙台城を望む西向きに造られた。

その時に植えられた杉林が大きく育ち、今は見ることはできないが、

政宗がこの場所を選んだ頃、ここから仙台城や城下の町なみ、遠く海も見えたという。

瑞鳳殿は、1945年の空襲で焼け落ち、その後、再建されたが、そのたたずまいは昔のままだ。

話を伺った瑞鳳殿の学芸員によれば、この辺りは自然が豊かで、ときには、カモシカ、夏の夕方などはムササビの飛ぶ姿を見かけることもあるという。

杉並木のある参道を下ると、西日を浴びる高層ビル街が目に入り一挙に現代の時間に引き戻された。

また、ここが市の中心部にとても近いことを気づかされた。昔と今、静寂と街の賑わい、それらが隣接しているのがこの界隈の特徴だ。

Zuihoden- The mausoleum of Date Masamune in cider trees-.

Date Masamune was the first federal lord of Sendai-han(Sendai domain) and he built Sendai Castle.

After Masamune passed away in 1636, Zuihoden, his mausoleum was constructed here in Kyogamine according to his last will and testament. And Cedar trees were planted around his final resting place.

When Masamune visited Kyogamine, he could see Sendai Castle from here.

Probably so, Zuihoden faces west, the direction towards Sendai Castle.

Now, Zuihoden stands quietly in the grove of cedar trees. And massive cedar trees provide natural environment for animals.

Occasionally Japanese serows are seen in this area. And if you are lucky, you may see a flying squirrel in the summer evening.
