#66 光り輝く冬の祭り～仙台光のページェント
オレンジ色の光が今年も定禅寺通りを活気づけた。 仙台の冬の風物詩、「仙台光のページェント」だ。 多くの人が光の森の散策に繰り出す。 見どころの一つは一晩に三回行われる「スターライト・ウィンク」。 光が一度消灯し、再び点灯される。
「わぁ！」と観客から歓声が上がる。
祭りは1986年、市民ボランティアにより始まった。 青葉通りと定禅寺通りのケヤキの木にイルミネーションを施したのが始まりで（現在は定禅寺通りのみ）全国のイルミネーションイベントの先駆者的存在となった。 街路樹の光は2009年に豆電球からLED電球に変わり、環境にやさしい取り組みもなされている。
ページェント開催期間中は様々なイベントが開かれる。勾当台公園では今年ファンタジーパークが開かれ、色とりどりの光のオブジェで来場者の目を楽しませた。 サンタの森の物語では市民によるサンタクロースのパレードが祭りに彩を与えた。
仙台の冬の寒さは厳しい。しかし12月の街は優しいオレンジの光と市民の協力で温かくなるのだ。
仙台光のページェントは12月中旬から31日まで。期間中は夕方5時30分から11時の開催。
31日の消灯式は午前24時で終了となる。

Radiant festival in winter~ Sendai Pageant of Starlight
Orange light warmed up the forest in the Jozenji Avenue this year again. One of the Sendai’s charming sites in winter, “Sendai Pageant of Starlight”. Lots of crowd hit up the avenue to enjoy strolling under the light forest. One of the spectacles is three times a night’s “Starlight blink” which is turning off the light once, soon lightning-up again. “Wow” the cheer arose in the crowd.
The festival was started by the Sendai citizen volunteers in 1986. They illuminated the zelkova trees on the Aoba-dori avenue and the Jozenji-dori avenue,(nowadays the pageant is taken place in the Jozenji-dori only) and it turned to a vanguard of other illumination festivals among in Japan. The lights on the trees changed to LED lights from midget lumps in 2009, the festival makes eco-friendly efforts.
There are several events taken place during the pageant. The Starlight Park in the Kotodai Park has lots of multicolor light ornaments delight the visitors. And the Santa Clause parade by the lots of Sendai citizens checkers the pageant.
Bitter cold weather in Sendai, but the gentle orange lights and the citizen’s cooperation make warm the city in December.
